FLOWER FESTIVAL
‘Century of Change’

100 years of Pangbourne College
35th Anniversary of the Falklands War

Free Entry and Car Parking
Souvenir Programmes £3

This year Pangbourne College celebrates its 100th Birthday and the
creation of its school chapel: The Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel, which was opened by HM The Queen in 2000. The Chapel is a ‘living’ National memorial: not only is it a memorial to those who gave their lives in 1982 for the liberation of the Falkland Islands, but also a chapel and concert hall. Using College and Chapel artefacts and photographs, this Festival reveals how much the school has changed over its 100-year history and remembers those who paid the ultimate sacrifice 35 years ago. The Centenary Pangbourne College book by Old Pangbournian, Robin Knight, as well as ‘Just to see His Name’ by former Headmaster, Anthony Hudson, will be on sale too.

Over 40 flower arrangers; twelve flower clubs from Berkshire,
Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire; as well as Pangbourne College Art Department are participating in this unique event. Everyone is

One of the finest international cellists of our era, Raphael Wallfisch will be partnered by the internationally acclaimed pianist Victor Sangiorgio in a celebrity recital in The Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel at Pangbourne College on Sunday 16 October at 3.30pm, as part of the school’s centenary celebrations. Together they will perform Debussy’s ‘Sonata’, Miaskovsky ‘s ‘Sonata No.2’, Schumann’s ‘Fantasy Pieces’ and Mendelssohn’s ‘Sonata No.2’.

Advance tickets  are available online now at  www.pangbourne.com/centenary-events : £13 (£7 for students) or at Garlands Organic, Pangbourne (cash only, please). Tickets on the door will be £15 (£9 for students). There will be an interval with a cash bar. Parking is free.

Well known around the world, both Wallfisch and Sangiorgio have succeeded at the highest competitive level and worked with some of the ‘greats’ of classical music. Wallfisch has recorded every major work for the cello, as well as performed new works commissioned for him by contemporary British composers such as Sir Peter Maxwell-Davies, Kenneth Leighton and John Taverner. He has also played at such major festivals as the BBC Proms. A champion of lesser known works, Sangiorgio has performed in major concert halls all over the world and with eminent conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski and André Previn. In 2015 he opened the second Pangbourne College International Concert series.

Miss Eleanor Calver, Director of Music, said, ‘Wallfisch and Sangiorgio are known for their brilliant technique as well as their passion for sharing their love of their instruments and classical music. This concert will be an opportunity for all members of the family aged 8 and over to attend one of their concerts in the wonderful environment of The Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel.’
